How we rate casual-dating sites
Every platform we cover is judged against the same five criteria, tested with a real account and reviewed on a regular schedule. Here is exactly how our scores are built — and why an advertiser can never buy one.
Our promise
Top-Hookup-Sites exists to give readers an honest, independent read on the casual-dating market. Our rankings are decided by our editors, not by the companies we review. No platform can pay to rank higher, jump the order or edit our verdict — there is no pay-to-win.
We do earn money. When you sign up through some of the links on our pages, we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you, and that compensation may affect where advertisements appear on the site. It never changes how we score a platform or where it lands in a ranking. We spell this out plainly in the advertiser disclosure at the top of every page so you always know where we stand.
The five criteria
Every site is measured against the same five factors. We keep the list short and consistent so that scores are comparable across platforms rather than a moving target.
- Member activity — The single most important factor. A platform is only worth your time if real people are logging in, browsing and replying. We look at how many active members are near a typical user, how many respond, and whether the community feels alive rather than abandoned.
- Match speed — How quickly a new member goes from creating a profile to holding an actual conversation. We track how long setup takes, how relevant the early suggestions are, and how fast a genuine reply tends to arrive.
- Privacy & safety — How well a platform protects you. We check profile and photo controls, discreet-billing options, encrypted payments, identity and anti-fraud measures, and the tools available to block or report bad actors.
- Ease of use — Whether the site gets out of your way. We assess sign-up, navigation, search and filters, and the mobile experience, rewarding clean, intuitive design over clutter and dark patterns.
- Value — What you actually get for the price of a subscription. We weigh the cost of premium plans against the features and results they deliver, and we flag confusing pricing, weak renewals or thin free tiers.
How we score
We do not review from the marketing pages. For each platform, an editor creates a real account, completes the sign-up, sets up a profile and uses the core features the way a member would — browsing, filtering, messaging and testing the safety and billing controls first-hand.
Each of the five criteria is scored, and those results combine into a single rating out of 10, with member activity carrying the most weight. The number you see on a review card is that overall score. Because platforms change — communities grow or shrink, features are added, pricing shifts — we revisit our scores and rankings regularly and update them when the experience on the ground no longer matches the rating.
Editorial independence
This is the line we will not cross: advertisers can never buy a ranking. Business relationships and commissions may affect the placement of advertising on our pages, but they have no influence on our review verdicts, our scores or the order in which platforms are ranked. Those decisions belong to the editorial team alone.
If a platform we earn a commission from performs poorly in testing, it scores poorly — and we say so. Keeping that separation intact is the only reason our rankings are worth reading.
About our editors
Top-Hookup-Sites is put together by a small team that has been reviewing casual-dating platforms since 2019. Between us we have created and tested hundreds of accounts across the market, watched sites rise and fade, and learned to tell a busy, responsive community from an empty one. We write in plain language, test everything ourselves, and treat your time and privacy as seriously as we treat our own.
